St. Paul's Episcopal Church Seniors SPECS V ivian and Ray Flynt founded St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Seniors (SPECS) in 1983 and headed the senior citizen group for 20 years after which they "retired" and turned responsibility for the group to Father Mike. V. Lou and Bertie Burton have also worked hard to keep SPECS going over the years. The Mission of SPECS is strictly social, getting together with good friends of similar age.. The only requirement is that you are 55 and not ashamed to admit it. The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month and welcomes people who are not members of St. Paul’s.
"We have people from St. Paul’s but also have some from the Christian Church (Disciples) in Freeport and the Episcopal church in Angleton (Holy Comforter)," said Burton. The average monthly attendance is between 16 and 24, according to Burton.
Sometimes the lunch is followed by bridge, dominoes or bingo for those who wish to stay.
